Success at Storrington care home’s annual fundraising Christmas Fayre

Last week, staff and residents at Care South’s Sussexdown care home in Storrington and the Friends of Sussexdown Committee invited their friends, families and the local community to join them in spreading some Christmas cheer at the home’s annual Christmas Fayre.

Each year, the Friends of Sussexdown Committee holds the Christmas Fayre at the home in order to raise money for Sussexdown’s Residents’ Amenity Fund. Funds raised during the Fayre will go towards buying Christmas presents for all residents and staff at the home, and will help fund the Christmas party!

The Fayre was declared officially open by the High Sheriff of West Sussex, Mr Jonathan Lucas and his wife Caroline, who stayed to join in the fun and meet Sussexdown’s residents. Visitors were able to browse a range of stalls, providing plenty of inspiration for Christmas presents for all the family. Residents had been very busy beforehand, making hand-crafted Christmas cards and decorations to sell on their own stall.

Younger visitors were delighted to explore the home’s very own Santa’s Grotto, where Father Christmas was in residence throughout the afternoon. The Fayre also gave visitors the chance to enjoy a cup of tea and a mince pie with the home’s residents and for everyone to get to know one another better.

Sally Williams, Chairman of the Friends of Sussexdown, said: “The Christmas Fayre is a great opportunity for staff and residents to invite family, friends and the local community to join them and spread a little festive cheer. We are delighted with the amount that we have raised for the home’s Residents’ Amenity Fund, which enables us to continue to provide an interesting and stimulating activities programme for our residents.”

Home Manager at Care South’s Sussexdown, Heather Rogers, added: “Our Christmas Fayre is a real highlight of the year for residents and staff and we hope everyone who visited the Fayre enjoyed it as much as we did. We’d like to say a big thank you to the Friends of Sussexdown for their continued support in making the Christmas Fayre such a special event.”

The Friends of Sussexdown Committee raises money to provide activities, entertainment and outings for the residents of Sussexdown.
