Tanbridge students learn how to ‘grow their own’

Newbridge Nurseries recently welcomed a group of students from Tanbridge House School to its very own vegetable patch for a special talk on the value of ‘growing your own’.

Seven ‘Eco Warriors’ made the trip to the Broadbridge Heath garden centre and were given a tour of the garden as well as being able to taste some of the produce, from radishes straight from the ground to peppers and spinach in a quiche made on-site in Stooks cafe.

Nigel Wait, Managing Director of Newbridge Nurseries, commented: “Our vegetable garden is a relatively new venture for us but here at Newbridge, we like to do things properly so it seemed only right to practise what we preach. All produce grown is used in our cafe; you certainly can’t get much fresher.

“It is so important to grow your own produce yet this message does not always filter down to the younger generations in the ‘superstore culture’ that we are living in at the moment.

“It was great to be able to talk to the children and answer their questions. I look forward to welcoming them back soon.”

Gail Watson, Head of Year 7 at Tanbridge House School, commented: “It was a fantastic opportunity for the children to learn from an expert and see things first-hand. It’s certainly inspired the staff to get to grips with the patch at Tanbridge. On behalf of the students, I would like to thank Nigel for giving up his time and I hope that this is the start of a long relationship between Newbridge and Tanbridge.”
