Top prize for Christ’s Hospital in competition

The students beat sixty-five other teams from schools across the country to win the top prize at the Benenden Model United Nations Conference.

The Christ’s Hospital team was presented with the Outstanding Delegation Award during the prestigious international relations conference’s closing ceremony.

Christ’s Hospital students presented proposals on a range of global concerns, including abortion and reproductive rights; detention without trial; global currency manipulation; and the protection of humanitarian workers during armed conflict.

The conference featured a simulation of the United Nations, with Christ’s Hospital students representing the policies of Canada, Egypt, Russia, the United Arab Emirates and Vietnam across nine different specialist committees.

Six members of the Christ’s Hospital team also won individual prizes for their participation in conference discussions. Outstanding Delegate Prizes were won by Dani Heath, Edmond King, Angel Droth-Vicens and Isobel Walker, with Highly Commended Awards presented to Grace Owen Ellis Clark and Kwame Owusu.

The students are all members of Christ’s Hospital’s Model United Nations programme, which aims to build an understanding of international relations amongst the next generation of international leaders and thinkers.

“To secure first place amongst a field of so many other strong schools is an extraordinary achievement. I am always impressed with Christ’s Hospital students’ ability to analyse world problems and find innovative solutions, and with the passion that they use to persuade others to support them. However, at this conference they exceeded my already high expectations. I am hugely proud of the whole team”, commented Dr Alistair Goddard, who helps run Model United Nations at Christ’s Hospital.
