Trying to hide it under the carpet

What has happened is that to save face, but to do no benefit to the environment, East Sussex have recently granted themselves permission to delay landscaping until after they have completed the road construction.

This is in our view reprehensible because:

a) The landscaping scheme should have been factored into the build programme at the start of construction, so that it could have had the maximum impact, in terms of amongst others, noise alleviation and visual softening, by the time the road opens. This of course ESCC did not plan for.

b) If the landscaping works are done after the road is opened, it is inevitable that these works still cause ongoing disruption to the road itself – extra vehicle movements, temporary road obstructions and the like.

This is quite apart from the debacle over the parapet on the Woodsgate Park bridge over the Link Road – how much has the error of the illegally low parapet cost?

Will we ever know?

ESCC will as usual try to hide it under the carpet.
