What green space will remain in Eastbourne?

Having lived in the local area for most of my life the planning departments of Eastbourne and Wealden never cease to amaze me with their planning decisions.

Take for example Friday Street Farm planning fiasco. The developers put in planning for 250 houses. Lots of people are against it and (apart from the developers) not one person wanted it to happen. Wealden District Council rejects the application as it is in a flood area amongst other things.

The developers know if they keep on coming back eventually the council will relent and that it was they did and it looks like it’s going ahead now. The council comes out with the same line... the government have told us we need x amount of new houses and there is nothing we can do about it.

The big question is then what is the point of a planning department that has no power to stop these developments and to protect what green space we have left.

The pollution from all the extra traffic, the extra strain on doctors and hospitals and schools running out of room.

It all points to slowing this mass development of the area but the council’s planners will eventually turn what we have left into one big housing estate.
