Hide AdThis area on the west of the Arun has been designated by the council as a strategic gap.
It is used by birds migrating from Europe and Africa and I understand a wood near Rope Walk is used as a resting place after their flight across the Channel .
Any development in this area, with its accompanying urban lighting, could unsettle the birds and disorientate their navigation.
In any case, development in the Rope Walk area would be madness, as most of this area is in a flood plain.
If houses were built here, owners would have difficulty obtaining insurance and in re-selling their houses.
