Life-saving project at risk in Horsham

I went to see the Safe Drive presentation in the Capitol in Horsham on November 21. This one was for students from Collyer's. It is very dramatic showing aspects of accidents with very hard films and commentaries.

It is led by the Fire Service and there are inputs from paramedics, police etc. In addition three very brave members of the public speak as well giving insights to the various aspects of accidents.

The effect on the audience is amazing, within minutes they are transformed from a normal chatting bunch of young people to dead silence.

Some are in tears and the organisers have a Trauma Team on hand to help those who have to go out of the theatre. It should be shown to adults as well.

The team operate in November and in March throughout the area, and the cost is £25K per year.

But, this year, may well be the last, as West Sussex County Council is planning to withdraw the funding as a cost-saving measure.

We need to remember that a single road traffic accident (‘RTA’) costs up to £1.6M. And I am sure that this drive saves at least one life by preventing an RTA from actually happening.

Please do anything you can to ensure this initiative is retained.
