PARKING: Ann Street, I fought and won

IN reply to all your readers who have fallen foul of the parking restrictions in Ann Street over the last weeks, please fight for your rights.

I did and I won.

Some weeks ago I parked in the last bay behind the skip in Ann Street, about five bays ahead of me were empty, so I had plenty of choice.

I left my son in the car and walked to the Brighton Road for my ticket.

I even asked two passing parking attendants if the machine I was at was the nearest to Ann Street and they said yes, but nothing about the restrictions!

Thirty minutes later when my son and I returned to the car, I had a ticket.

After speaking to another parking attendant, I then saw the signs.

My son took photos on my mobile phone which along with a letter I sent to the parking appeals office.

My objections to the ticket were on the grounds that the signs were away from the parking bays, way above my head, and that when I did see them the signs read "from 24 hours until the end of August".

To me, that meant the restrictions started in 24 hours' time and not in force at the time I was parked there. These reasons were accepted and the fines dropped.

I have been back a few times since and the signs still have not changed and the parking attendants are still issuing tickets and your readers still seem too frightened to fight back.

If the public feel, as I did, that they are being unfairly treated, take a deep breath, cut through the red tape and fight back.

They will find they can fight the law, and win!
