Please stop being ageist, Lauren

AS a regular reader of the Herald, I find its contents to be informative, stimulating and entertaining.

However, I feel I must respond to a contribution in this week's issue, which has stretched my patience to breaking point.

I am referring to the article under the heading of Lauren.

Read Lauren Bravo's column here.

For years, we have endured reading about the hardships of student life, and now the vicissitudes of post-graduate living, but the comparison of her ailing laptop to "an 87 year old trying to get out of an armchair" is both distasteful and ageist.

Surely, with Miss Bravo's extensive knowledge of English (to which we have contributed over the years) she could have found a less contentious similie, particularly in a town with a high percentage of elderly residents.

It is such offensive blanket statements that has made the need for political correctness, and this needs to be addressed here.
