Town hotelier will be sorely missed

AS a summer resident of Bognor Regis, may I wish David Coombs, long-time owner of the Royal Hotel on the Esplanade, a very happy retirement.

My wife and I have many happy memories of attending events and staying at this iconic establishment – strangely omitted from the town council’s Visitor Guide 2012 heritage trail, given it has an extremely interesting history and has been the hub of many of the town’s major attractions (Birdman, Illuminations switch-ons etc) for many years.

While the hotel may be showing its age a little these days, there was nothing tired about the way Mr Coombs ran his establishment, always helpful, with a great sense of humour and a personal touch often lacking in today’s hotel management.

Hopefully the new owners will carry on his tradition.

Bognor obviously has a lot to thank David Coombs for, and we wish him a long and happy relaxation with his family.
