Whyit's time for voting change

In Arun District Council, the Conservatives obtained 52 per cent vote share, but 85 per cent of the seats (48), Liberal Democrats 19 per cent of the vote but only seven per cent of the seats (four), Labour 16 per cent of the votes and five per cent of the seats (three), Independents three per cent of the vote and two per cent of the seats (one), and UKIP nine per cent of the vote and no seats

For Bognor Regis Town Council, the figures were: Conservative vote share 29 per cent but 50 per cent of the seats (eight), Liberal Democrats 27 per cent of the vote and 37 per cent of the seats (six), Labour 21 per cent of the vote and six per cent of the seats (one), Independent 14 per cent vote, six per cent of the seats (one), and the BNP eight per cent of the votes and no seats.

No wonder the Conservatives want to keep this grossly-distorting and unfair voting system of first past the post.

The sooner England moves to a proper proportional voting system for local elections (not AV, which is not proportional!) as in most of the rest of the United Kingdom, the better.

Only then will all voters begin to regain faith in local government elections and start voting in them.
