Orchard ward byelection result

A MARGIN of 29 votes has enabled the Liberal Democrats to hold on to a seat on Bognor Regis Town Council.

David Meagher clinched the byelection for the Orchard ward with 314 votes.

This was enough to hold off Labour’s Jan Cosgrove with 285 votes.

In third place was the Conservatives’ Laura McCorquodale who received 129 votes, followed by Joan Phillips, of UKIP, with 104.

The turnout was 21.2 per cent to mean just over one in five electors voted.

The result means the political make-up of the town council remains without any overall political control. It has eight Conservative members, six Lib Dems, one Labour and one Independent.
