Both schools have the names of the students involved and have sent letters to their parents. On Friday, police stopped around 40 youths in Meridian Park, Peacehaven.

All of them were searched for weapons and had their names and addresses taken. They were then sent home.

Sergeant Robin Fuller said: 'There had been an incident earlier in the week with youths from Longhill School in Woodingdean coming over to Peacehaven looking for a Peacehaven individual that had been involved in a previous fight.

'The fight was prevented and the youths were all put back on the bus and sent home.

Helen Cryer, headteacher at PCS, said: 'Now that we have the names of the students involved in the recent incidents we will be contacting parents. This school will not tolerate such behaviour in our community.'
