Our city in a collage of close-ups

Everyone sees our city differently. For Will Sawney, a designer, Brighton and Hove is the sum of its vibrant parts.

He started creating "texture collages" - crafted deliberately by the designer, rather than randomly by software - after returning from a trip to Asia in 2011.

Will said: "Texture collages are my way of representing the most evocative images of a place. When you travel, it's rarely the landmarks and landscapes that you remember; more likely it's the '˜feel' of a place, perhaps the street food, fabrics, or everyday architecture.'

Will has produced a collage that comprises 186 images taken in Brighton and Hove: 'Iconsic sights are in the mix. In particular, though, I was looking for the overlooked - from paving slabs to the local council logo. These are the genuine sights of the city.'
