Packed programme of fun for sixth Summer Fun Day

Rain may stop play at Wimbledon but not even a mid-afternoon deluge could dampen the spirit of pupils, staff and visitors to Billingshurst Primary School's sixth annual Summer Fun Day this year.

In a summer of sport, from France to Rio, Billingshurst Primary School hosted its own hotly contested sporting

activities throughout the day and helped to raise over £8,000 for the school.

Thanks to a packed programme of activities, the event remains the school’s biggest fundraising event, with staff, pupils and families working alongside local businesses to ensure the day is a success. Whilst the usual Fun Day favourites continued to draw the crowds, from face painting to the BBQ, the Deputy/Head Teacher Bungee Run Challenge was one of the highlights of the day with Miss Nicholls, the Deputy Head, retaining her ‘gold medal’ position for the third year in a row. Teachers from Year 2 added their own chapter to the European championship, with Greece taking on Spain on the Bungee course. The welly wanging competition produced some outstanding results, highlighting some potential Olympians in the making; the winning throw from Key Stage One reached 10.95m, with 16.08m from Key Stage 2, and a massive throw of 25.95m from the adult competition. The school choir and country dancers entertained visitors in the display ring.

Helen Williamson, Head Teacher at Billingshurst Primary School, said: “We are very proud of the tradition of this fundraising event. Staff, pupils and parents all help in the lead-up and on the day which means everyone shares a real sense of pride in the outcome.”
