Pagham councillors look at taking on pond

One of Pagham's most attractive areas could be bought by local councillors.

Pagham Parish Council is considering buying the duck pond between Sussex Drive and Church Way.

The water feature and its surrounding grassland is owned by developer Persimmon Homes.

The parish council’s members and community volunteers have spent time recently improving the site.

They have undertaken a programme of planting on the grassland and tidying up the pond.

Cllr Ian Balch said: “We are considering taking on the ownership of the duck pond.

“There would be no cost involved because Persimmon would give it to us. But we need to look very carefully at the cost involved for maintenance work.

“By the next electors’ meeting,” he told this year’s meeting on Tuesday, May 1, “We will have made a decision.

“It will be nice to own an area like that but not if it’s going to cost a lot of money.”
