Parishoners add home-made flavour to All Saints' market

ITALIAN hand-made cardigans were among the many bargains to be found for shoppers flocking to a Christmas market at All Saint' Church, Sidley.

The church hall was a busy seen from the moment the doors opened on Saturday morning.

And no wonder.

Energetic parishoners had provided much of the stock by their own hand.

Pat Cooper was doing a brisk trade on her stall. Besides those Italian woollens, she had her own home made fare on display, from delicious-looking sausage rolls to sumptuous steak pies.

Barbara Bussey had stocked an entire stall with her own watercolour paintings.

"I've lots more at home..." she told the Observer. "I have been painting since I was a child. I carried on when I was teaching.

"I belong to three art groups and sell a lot of my paintings in restaurants and places."

Suzanne Parrott had stocked an entire stall with her handmade cakes.

Elsewhere in the hall, a large double-fronted dolls house awaited some lucky little girl on Christmas Day. Gift-hunters were invited to submit bids for the dolls house.
