Park hosts Big Lunch

Apparently there’s no such thing as a free lunch, but a family fun day being held at Egerton Park, Bexhill, this weekend is set to disprove that myth whilst raising funds for charity.

The Big Lunch, hosted by the Hastings branch of the Halifax, in partnership with The Big Lunch, takes place this Sunday (June 7) 2-5pm.

The free family fun day brings the local community together and raises money for St Michael’s Hospice, St Leonards on Sea.

Along with free afternoon tea, visitors will get the chance to learn some cheerleading skills from local group, The Phoenix Flyers.

Other activities include face painting, biscuit decorating, a treasure hunt, and entertainment provided by a roaming magician.

Jill Watson, manager at the Halifax, Hastings, said both herself and her team are excited about hosting the Big Lunch event, adding: “We are looking forward to welcoming everyone from the local community along and raising lots of money for the hospice.

“The Big Lunch provides a great opportunity for us to talk to people on a more personal level and really helps strengthen relationships in the community.”

The Big Lunch is the UK’s annual get-together for neighbours, an idea from the Eden Project made possible by the Big Lottery Fund and supported by the Halifax and Asda.

“The Big Lunch helps people get to know the whole street by taking a few hours out of their day on Sunday June 7 to share a meal, conversation and laughter,” said Sir Tim Smit KBE, Co-founder, the Eden Project and The Big Lunch. “This kind of event really helps to build personal relationships and feed community spirit.”

Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cornwall is Patron of The Big Lunch.
