Park's new path is on way to help site's users

WORK on a new path across a popular park in Rose Green should be started in July.

Aldwick Parish Council hopes the construction of the footway at Avisford Park recreation ground will be completed within six weeks so it is ready before next winter.

A meeting between four parish councillors and Arun District Council’s landscapes officer, Sue Howell, took place at the park last week to discuss the £10,000 scheme’s progress.

Cllr John Hockenhull, of the council’s amenities committee, said: “The proposed pathway will link with the existing tarmac entrance on to Frobisher Road and will join to an improved and extended entrance on Nyetimber Lane.

“The improved entrance at Nyetimber Lane will involve the removal and widening of the existing one, while protecting it from vehicular access with the use of oak bollards.”

Work will make the gradient into the park easier for those with buggies and mobility scooters.

The 1.2m-wide path’s route has been chosen to enable a potential extension of the play area.

This will see temporary spur paths of compacted gravel from the new path put in until a new path can be installed.

The project is wanted by the park’s users because the area is often flooded in winter.
