Part time courses helpingpeople to get employment

Since the turn of the year the college has run a range of free courses aimed at helping 16-24 year olds get back into education or enhance their CV with a new skill.

So far the college has helped 47 people to join courses such as the Prince’s Trust Team, Traineeships and Inclusive Pathways and a further 18 people gain Level 1 AAT Bookkeeping skills.

Figures show that Hastings has a high number of NEETs (Not in Education, Employment or Training), one of the highest in East Sussex.

A spokesperson for the College, said: “Courses such as the Prince’s Trust and Traineeships are a really important and rewarding way to engage with this group of people.

“The Prince’s Trust Team and Traineeship programmes continue to be popular and very rewarding for individuals who sign up.

“The young people, who may have left school with no qualifications or are reluctant to engage with learning, gain a positive gateway back into education or employment through team building and practical activities.”

The Prince’s Trust and Traineeship courses continue to run throughout the year and will start again in April 25th and 11th respectively.

The most recent group to complete the Prince’s Trust Team inspired the audience during a final presentation in December.

Many of the group had extremely low confidence and self-esteem, some of whom wouldn’t even leave their bedrooms before the course started. But they all told their stories to a room full of people and now have aspirations to find full-time work or start at the college full-time.

The Princes Trust helps 13 to 30 year-olds who are unemployed or struggling at school to transform their lives.

Last year the Trust helped more than 56,000 young people across the UK.

A spokesperson for the Trust said: “Many of the young people we help are in, or leaving, care, facing issues such as homelessness or mental health problems, or have been in trouble with the law. Our free programmes give young people the practical and financial support they need to stabilise their lives. We help them develop key skills while boosting their confidence.”
