After a special tea to celebrate a valued member’s 90th birthday, with delicious cakes baked by her daughter, we welcomed Geoff Brown of the Macmillan Horizon Centre in Brighton. He spoke at length on the work of the cancer supporters and we were surprised to learn that the charity was started in 1911 by Douglas Macmillan in order to help and support those suffering with cancer to have the best possible life, particularly if they have no family or friends. There are so many ways in which this worthy charitable institute helps, ie involvement with football, Yoga, group sessions, advice on money problems, cookery workshops and many more. They are also in partnership with Boots and Age Concern. It was a very uplifting talk and, of course, they rely on donations, large or small.

Looking forward to seeing you at our next meeting on October 3. (Joy Allen).
