Peasmarsh

If you are reading this I guess the world hasn’t ended. Moving on, I would like to wish everyone in Peasmarsh a very Happy Christmas. I wish you all you want for yourselves and your families, given the worldwide news lately we all need to keep our families close. Health, wealth and happiness to all. And chocolate.

I received the following from Tony Curd, Chairman of the Peasmarsh RBL. ‘On behalf of the Peasmarsh Royal British Legion I would like to thank all who helped with this year’s Poppy Appeal. Jempsons, The Royal Oak, Horse and Cart, Cock Inn, Flackley Ash Hotel, and also all those who collected round the village - Judy, Sharon, Joe, Richard, Derek, Peasmarsh School and Place House. We had another good year raising a total of £2029.81. Members are reminded that subs are now overdue. Once again thank you all.’

We now have a new grit bin adjacent to the Maltings Business Park. This is a pilot project which the Parish Council has funded at the request of a group of residents. (Let’s make it quite clear. East Sussex County Council’s contribution to this consisted of publishing an article which said, “If you want a grit bin, ask your Parish Council”). The management of this bin is now in the hands of those who requested it. The Council will be responsible for ordering more grit when it is needed. Depending on the success of this project the Council will be willing to consider a further request from any group of residents prepared to take responsibility for the management and spreading of the grit. In its publication the County Council emphasizes that grit needs to be spread before any substantial snowfall otherwise it will not be effective.

Over a hundred people enjoyed the candlelit carols at the church on Sunday evening, led by the W I Choir, and the children’s “Little Choir”. There were many familiar and well-loved carols for community singing, and Fr Bill Dolman presided over a simple service with readings from members of the congregation young and old. The choral music varied, ranging from John Rutter to a calypso “Jamaican Noel”. We would like to thank the Choir for their performances and their support, also all those who prepared the church so that it looked festive and welcoming, The Friends of Peasmarsh Parish Church for supplying the refreshments served after the service, and all those others who “lent a hand” when we ran out of “staff”.

All services this Sunday December 23 will be at Beckley, including a Christingle Service at 4pm.

The next Christmas service at Peasmarsh will be on Christmas Eve, when the “Midnight Mass” will start at 11.30pm, conducted by the Rev Dick Dengate. The service on Christmas morning will be at 10am and will be conducted by the Rev Dr Bill Dolman.
