Peasmarsh village voice

Don’t forget the Flower Festival at Peasmarsh church takes place this weekend, the church will be open from mid day Friday, 10 - 5 on Saturday and 11 - 5 on Sunday instead of Saturday to Monday as in previous years. There will be the usual well-stocked Plant Stall and Food and Drink available all day.

The inaugural Rye 10 Mile Road Running race will be taking place in Peasmarsh this Sunday. The race is an important part of the county’s running calendar and has attracted runners from all over the south east and beyond to take part. It is also an important fundraiser for the village, with proceeds going towards the Peasmarsh Memorial Hall’s fundraising efforts to refurbish the Hall. The 10 mile route will be via Tanhouse Lane to Starvecrow Lane into Moore’s Lane, along Furnace Lane, turning right at Calveslodge Wood into Horseshoe Lane, then back to Starvecrow Lane and the finish at Jempsons’ car park. Runners will be registering at the Cock Inn and the race will start at the entrance to Jempsons’ car park. There will be a road closure from Jempson’s car park along Tanhouse Lane to the junction of School Lane just prior to the start of the race at 10 am but it is hoped that this can be lifted within about 15 minutes of the race start. The race organisers will try and keep any disruptions and inconvenience to a minimum so that hopefully the race will not affect anyone’s Sunday routine. If you are out and about in your car please be aware that there will be runners on the following roads from 10am until around midday Sunday - Tanhouse Lane, Starvecrow Lane, Horseshoe Lane, Moores Lane, Furnace Lane. Even if you are not taking part in the race please come and give your encouragement and support to the runners on the day and enjoy the spectacle that the 200 or so runners will provide.

A big thank you to those people who have put up flags and bunting already. It’s not long now until the Jubilee Celebrations so please get busy with bunting, flags or even red, white and blue flowers displays! It is a once in a lifetime celebration so please help make Peasmarsh as colourful as possible. (Main Street – you are most on show so get those decorations up!) Able bodied people are still needed to help on Friday and Saturday erecting tents etc. If you can help in any way please contact Jenny Als Tel:230324. If you have not filled in your reply form do it now and return it to Jempsons, Peasmarsh School or Pre-School. Do come and make this a really special day to remember!
