Peasmarsh village voice

Both events at the Memorial Hall this Saturday March 3 are fundraising for the refurbishment of our hall so please do come along and support them.

We are working very hard to raise funds and the support of the village is vital to our plans - after all the hall is there for all of us to use, for clubs, parties, meetings, whatever - it’s our hall and we need to make sure it is still standing for many years to come. It will be so much better once we’ve managed to make all the improvements so please help us to get there!

So first on Saturday will be the jumble sale - doors open at 1, refreshments available, there will be books and all sorts of things for sale until 3pm. If you have any jumble to donate it can be brought to the hall from 9am onwards. Thank you to the people who have already donated!

Then in the evening there will be one of our infamous Peasmarsh Quiz nights - 7.30pm, £5.50 entrance which includes a ploughman’s supper and a lot of (friendly) competition! If you haven’t been to one yet then make this the time you do, they really are a lot of fun - bring your own drinks, whatever you think will help your brain function best!

Our pavilion is in a sad state and badly needs some repairs and a coat of paint now the weather is improving. The Recreation Ground Committee is seeking help from any able-bodied volunteers – particularly the young people who use the grounds and their families - to join a “Working Party” over the weekend of March 24th/25th when they hope to have a thorough spring clean, get the new guttering in place, and do some painting. Can you spare a couple of hours ? Do you know someone who would donate some paint ?

Ideas for the Jubilee are beginning to come together. There will be another meeting of the committee on Monday March 5th at the hall at 7.30pm. Are you new to Peasmarsh ? Would you like to meet people and get involved ? Now’s your chance ! We are looking for more residents with energy and enthusiasm to help organise a big fete on the field with fun and games ,music, stalls and sideshows, and a special tea party for the children.

Is there anyone who would like to sponsor the planting of a wildflower meadow on part of the skatepark field? This is another exciting jubilee year project.

It seems likely that residents at the west end of the village will very soon have their VAS (Vehicle Activated Sign). After years of trying the Parish Council has at last persuaded the Highways Department that more traffic calming on Barnetts Hill is essential, and permission has been given for the sign for which the funds have already been raised through the parish precept. The pole is already in place. The sign should follow shortly and we can only hope that it will succeed in slowing down the traffic.

Don’t forget that the new 60+ Sing for Fun will be starting on Tuesday March 6, 2pm to 3.30pm; everyone welcome. Just turn up or phone Yvonne on 01797 230693 for further details. Also, Pilates classes have just started at the hall on Fridays, please ring Sarah on 07769651899 for bookings and more information.

Peasmarsh Flying Start baby and toddler group is held at the Peasmarsh Memorial Hall every Thursday morning (during term time) from 9.30am-11.30am and costs £2 per family.

Services this Sunday at Peasmarsh church will be 10am Holy Eucharist and 3pm Evensong.
