Pebsham hosts model stock car championship

PEBSHAM recreation ground was the venue for the Southern Oval Model Car Club's 1/8th Stock Car European Championship.

Tesco Bexhill was one of the main sponsors of the event which drew a large crowd of competitors and spectators.

Tesco’s Community Champion Hazel Lingham, who presented trophies to the winners, said: “It turned out to be a fantastic day even though it was quite windy.”

The Championship winner was Jody Foster and Junior round winner 10-year-old Scott Kinton, with Amelia Batty taking second place and Jo Fletcher in third.

In true racing style the winners took their places on the rostrum where they received magnums of champagne to celebrate their success.

Hazel said: “Even the juniors had their share but they did not drink any, it ended up over themselves and the crowds!”

To enter the race, competitors’ cars had to be a 1/8th scale reasonable reproduction of a full-sized stockcar with an overall length between 41cm and 45cm.
