PENELOPE DOES THE HONOURS AT RESCUE CENTRE

Actress Penelope Keith, who just a year ago adopted a ginger kitten from the Raystede animal rescue centre, joined celebrations this week as a new £3m welfare block was opened.

Miss Keith, a patron and long time supporter of the centre at Ringmer, performed the opening ceremony on Tuesday before touring the state-of-the-art kennels, cattery, isolation unit, aviaries and a veterinary surgery.

General manager Morgan Williams said the actress became interested in the centre through her mother Connie Keith who was a great supporter and friend of its founder 'Ray' Raymonde-Hawkins.

Also present to offer support were former newsreader Kenneth Kendall and actress Dora Bryan.
