Originally due to be held in Hastings on June 20 and in Bexhill on June 21, the event will now take place on the weekend of September 19 and 20.

In Hastings, it will take place between the pier and the Source Park on September 19.

In Bexhill, it will take place on the Metropole Lawns by the De La Warr Pavilion on September 20.

The decision was made after Cycling UK, British Cycling Councils, as well as organisations and individuals involved with the event said they were following the government’s latest measures to stop the spread of the virus.

A 1066 Cycling Festival spokesman said: “While cycling still remains one of the best forms of exercise and still allowed as an individual whilst keeping a physical distance, to go out in groups means there is likely to be social contact of less than two metres.

“For those reasons, we have chosen the new weekend which will coincide with Hastings Seafood and Wine Festival and Bexhill’s Anglo-Continental Market. Green Tourism brings huge economic value to 1066 Country and events like ours bring visitors who contribute to business success.

“I’m sure we are all wishing to get out in some fresh air and exercise safely, meet people and invest in our towns. This decision has been taken in agreement with councils, cycle groups, all participants and our key attraction of Savage Skills cycle stunt show.

“Keep fit, stay well and look forward to getting back to our new normal in September or sooner if possible.”
