Camber Castle was built during the reign of Henry VIII to protect the port of Rye, the harbour at Winchelsea and the Camber anchorage. Formerly on a headland, it is now some way inland due to silting. Photo: Getty Images

6. Birling Gap
This stunning shingle beach in Eastbourne has so much to see, especially when the tide is out. It offers amazing sea views from all angles and plenty of fun for all the family. Photo: Getty Images

7. Rye
Rye is one of the Cinque Ports that controlled much of the trade in medieval England. It sits at the confluence of three rivers at what was once the head of an inlet from the English Channel and is always a big draw for tourists. Photo: Getty Images

8. Camber Sands
Camber Sands beach near Rye is the only sand dune system in East Sussex. Located east of the estuary of the River Rother at Rye Bay, it stretches 3 miles to just beyond the Kent border, where shingle take over again. It is naturally very popular with nature lovers. Photo: Getty Images
