Arun District Council 'urges caution' on coast as Storm Austen brings powerful waves
Residents, visitors and dog walkers are being urged to stay away from dangerous sea conditions by Arun District Council as Storm Austen brings strong winds and rough seas to the Sussex coast.
Arun District Council has issued a warning urging people to take extra care when visiting beaches and seafronts, as powerful waves and stormy weather create potentially hazardous conditions along the coastline.

The warning comes as Storm Austen brings strong winds and heavy rain to Sussex.
A yellow weather warning for wind covers parts of the county until 5pm on Friday, October 23, with gusts of 50 to 60mph possible in coastal areas and stronger gusts possible in exposed locations.
A spokesperson for Arun District Council said: “Strong winds and powerful waves can create unpredictable conditions along the coast. Large waves have been reported and may be strong enough to knock people off their feet. Stormy weather can also leave debris, driftwood and other objects scattered across the beach, creating additional hazards.
"If you're heading out for a coastal walk, please keep a safe distance from the water's edge and avoid standing on sea defences, groynes or rocks, which can become slippery and dangerous.
“Dog walkers are also urged to take extra care - keep dogs under close control and away from rough surf, debris and unstable areas of the beach. Objects washed ashore may pose a risk to curious pets, and dogs can quickly get into difficulty in strong waves and currents.
"Please stay safe, if conditions look dangerous, consider choosing an alternative route until the weather improves.”
