Bake Off contestant delivers fun festive baking sessions in Shoreham

Bake Off contestant Sally Dells has given older people from Worthing and Shoreham two fun baking sessions, supported by a team of volunteers.

Homecare provider Right at Home Worthing and Shoreham District joined forces with Love to Move for the free festive events, welcoming guests aged 65 and over at the Shoreham Centre.

Sally, who appeared in Bake Off: The Professionals 2025 for Soho bakery Crumbs and Doilies with friend Dane Pemberton, delivered two separate sessions, making them both dementia and Parkinson’s friendly.

There was mince pie making at the first session, followed by Christmas biscuit decorating, with donations raising £181.40 for Dementia Adventure, a charity offering outdoor experiences that promote wellbeing, confidence and connection.

Sally designed the sessions to be relaxed, welcoming and accessible, reducing feelings of loneliness by giving people living with dementia or Parkinson’s the opportunity to meet others in a supportive and friendly setting.

Anton van Baalen, managing director of Right at Home Worthing and Shoreham, said: "We are incredibly proud to have raised £181.40 for Dementia Adventure while also creating safe, joyful and inclusive spaces for people living with dementia and Parkinson’s.

"Alongside our free Dementia Interpreter training, our aim is to educate and support the wider community, reducing stigma and helping people feel understood and valued.”

The free training is offered to local businesses, organisations and community members to help improve understanding of dementia and support the creation of more inclusive, dementia-friendly spaces across Worthing and Shoreham.

There are also regular Love to Move sessions, as well as pottery and mosaic, giving people the opportunity to stay active, get creative and connect with others.
