Claverham Community College’s design technology department packed 30 re-useable face shields for staff at Edendale Lodge care home to wear in the hope of providing reassurance and additional safety measure in the fight against coronavirus (Covid-19).

Theresa Toal, registered manager at Edendale Lodge, said: “It is really comforting to know the community is looking out for us.

“The face shields will definitely provide additional comfort during these really difficult times. We thank the college for thinking of us, such community spirit and gratitude right now is so heartening to see.”

Miss J Humphrey, head of the design technology department at Claverham, said: “The first couple of weeks in lockdown, it had become abundantly clear that there was an issue with medical professionals getting hold of PPE, and as a department of design technology we felt we could be of use.

“We had the equipment and we also had the material surplus from what would have been used for the students.

“One share on Facebook and we were inundated with demands for face shields, from GPs, care homes, community hospitals to people caring for individuals in the local community.

“We felt privileged to be able to provide for the community with the support they needed and to date have supplied just under 900 face shields.”
