Bengal Brasserie, in London Road, scooped the accolade at the awards ceremony at the InterContinental Hotel, London, following a rigorous selection process by the public.

Owner Abdul Mukith said: “On behalf of Bengal Brasserie we are very grateful to our regular customers and the support they have given us over the years, without whom we would not have won this award.

“We would also like to thank Salik Munim, founder of ARTA and his team for awarding us with this achievement.”

The nominations launch for ARTA 2018 took place at the House of Commons in January.

At the ceremony ARTA honoured the best chefs and service staff, their artistry and culinary skills, and the environments they create for diners in restaurants up and down the country, as selected by the diners themselves.

Following the nominations launch, ARTA categorised nominated restaurants across 15 regions in the UK and Ireland in order to distinguish the top 30 South Asian restaurants in each region.

A formal assessment was then carried out to determine the leading restaurants based on criteria such as quality of service, quality of product, value for money, and food hygiene ratings in tandem with the number of nominations provided by the public.

Mr Munim said: “This was our maiden journey and we recognised the people that work hard day and night, seven days a week, 365 days a year.

“Our mission is not only about an award, our mission has been to introduce the industry to the regional colleges where we have staff shortages.

“Working together, it can help the industry by engaging youngsters with the Asian restaurant trade.”
