Big Nibble is a huge success

Thousands of food lovers poured into Horsham at the weekend to sample a slice of what the town has to offer.

The Big Nibble, which kicked off the district’s month-long food festival, has been hailed a resounding success by organisers who anticipate that the extra visitors will have given the local economy a welcome boost.

The town’s biggest celebration of food yet, this year’s Big Nibble featured the first Little Nibble, a mini festival on The Forum on Saturday, which attracted hundreds of families and included hands-on activities such as a food sculpture contest.

Another big draw was the Great Horsham Bake Off, the final of which was held on Sunday, again on The Forum, in front of an expectant crowd.

But it was the food market on the Carfax which was the heartbeat of the two day event.

Garry Mortimer-Cook, the district council’s town centre and events manager, was pleased with the number of visitors the Big Nibble attracted: “We have done everything we can to give local businesses the opportunity money, by hosting events the Nibble Trail and the Beer Trail.”

Other attractions at the weekend included the Nibble Trail which gave lucky readers of the West Sussex County Times and West Sussex Gazette the chance to sample taster dish at selected restaurants bars and cafes. The Beer Trail gave visitors the chance to sample drinks and a selection of town centre watering holes.

To top the weekend off, an impressive 800 members of the public were ferried by historic buses to and from the Big Nibble as part of the Horsham Bus Rally.
