Bikers 'will continue to be very welcome' at popular spot in West Sussex

Bikers ‘will continue to be very welcome' at a popular site near Arundel, according to the new owner.

The Whiteways Takeaway Kiosk at Bury Hill, Houghton, closed in October 2025.

It was always hugely popular with bikers, with hundreds regularly packing the car park on weekends.

Some have voiced concerns over whether motorcyclists will be welcomed by the new team operating the site.

New owner Phil Howard – owner of Fauna Brewery and the Duke of Norfolk’s youngest son – said bikers ‘will continue to be very welcome’.

He said: "We’re not trying to turn Whiteways into something exclusive or overly polished – quite the opposite. We want it to remain a relaxed, accessible place where lots of different groups of people feel comfortable.

“The parking will remain free, and bikers will be just as welcome to stop for a coffee, breakfast or lunch as walkers, cyclists, families and everyone else.”

Phil said he is also planning to introduce e-bike hiring to the site, in addition to ‘other outdoor activities that work naturally with the location’.

He added: “The aim is for it to be somewhere for everyone – walkers, cyclists, families, bikers, locals and people simply passing through.”
