Birling Gap beach closed after rock fall on public staircase

The beach at Birling Gap has been closed again and Wealden District Council has confirmed why.

On Friday (March 6), the council tweeted: “#BirlingGap update: we’ve had to close the beach again, this time following a rockfall onto the foot of the staircase.

“We’ll let you know as soon as it reopens.

“The recent wet weather will have weakened some areas of the cliff, so please #becliffaware & stay away from the edge.”

The beach was also closed last weekend due to ‘persistently bad weather’ ahead of Storm Jorge.
