Bognor Regis reptile rescue makes heartfelt plea to find a permanent home

A reptile rescue charity based in Bognor Regis has launched an appeal to find a permanent home after outgrowing the family property from which it currently operates.

The Sussex Reptile Rescue Centre, which became a registered charity in 2024, currently runs from a family home and cares for around 25 reptiles, including royal pythons, bearded dragons, leopard geckos, tortoises and a boa constrictor.

But with the number of animals needing help continuing to increase, the rescue says it has ‘reached a turning point’ and urgently needs more space.

The charity is now appealing to landowners, farmers, businesses, community organisations, charities, colleges and councils — as well as anyone who may have access to suitable land or buildings — to help it find a permanent base.

The Sussex Reptile Rescue Centre based in Bognor Regis has launched an appeal to find a permanent home after outgrowing the family property from which it currently operates.

The centre says it is open to a variety of possibilities, including unused buildings or facilities, donated or gifted space, charitable arrangements and longer-term partnerships.

A dedicated premises would allow the rescue to increase the number of animals it can take in, improve its facilities and expand its educational and outreach work.

A spokesperson for The Sussex Reptile Rescue Centre said: "Since starting and becoming a charity in 2024, we have been dedicated to running the rescue from our family home in Bognor Regis.

"From here, we have provided a safe space for the animals in our care, while working within the community to promote responsible reptile keeping and animal welfare.

"But as the number of animals in our care has grown, we have now reached a turning point — and we need your help."

The charity is keen to hear from anyone who may be able to offer land, a building or another suitable opportunity, even if they are unsure whether what they have would be appropriate.

It is also asking people to spread the word.

"You might not have the space yourself — but you might know somebody who does," the spokesperson added.

"Please share our appeal and help us find somewhere that The Sussex Reptile Rescue Centre can finally call home."
