The good news came on Sunday (March 22) when BN1 5GB was announced as a winner with the People’s Postcode Lottery.

Each of the Highbank residents has won £30,000.

In a statement, ambassador of the prize Danyl Johnson sent his congratulations. He said: “I’m over the moon for our Brighton winners and I’m sure they’ll enjoy their prize money.”

Among the winners was auditor Hannah Champion, 52, who has three children, two of whom will be doing schoolwork at home this week.

She said: “My 11 and 14-year-old girls are having to do schoolwork from home given everything that’s going on just now.

“They had really old laptops so I can now buy them new ones which will help a lot as they need to do three hours a day. They’re excited about getting new ones which is great!”

Hannah and her partner Sean, got engaged at Christmas and are also planning to get married in March next year.

She said: “The money will help us out with the wedding and allow us to do what we want.

“The venue is a big barn just down the road from where we live. It’s a while away yet so I’m hoping it still goes ahead!”

Also among those winning £30,000 was Lynn Keywood, 61, a former NHS admin worker.

Lynn said: “It’s just brilliant! I was ill last year so it’s a good boost.

“I’ve got two children and six grandchildren, so I will help them all out. One of them is an ice hockey player and it costs a fortune with him going up and down the country to play, as we don’t have an ice rink in Brighton. The equipment isn’t cheap either!

“It really helps all of us. It’s nice to put a smile on the kids’ faces.”

Lynn says she also plans to take a trip abroad after her upcoming holiday to Spain was cancelled.

People’s Postcode Lottery costs £10 a month to play, with guaranteed winners every day.

Sunday’s draw was promoted on behalf of British Red Cross, which has received more than £6.1 million in support from players.

As Baroness Barran said in a House of Lords debate this week on the importance of journalists: “Not only are they a trusted source of facts, but they will have a role to play in rallying communities and getting the message across about how we can keep ourselves and our families safe, and protect our NHS. Undoubtedly, they have a critical role.”
