Burgess Hill repair café a success

The event, which took place on Saturday, February 15, saw 66 people attend with items to repair.

Anne Eves, Green Party councillor and one of the organisers, said: "Everyone who was there seems to have enjoyed it.

"You wouldn't believe some of the items we repaired: a dolls house, a bagatelle boars, a sewing machine and a kitchen drawer.

"We've had 45 volunteers sign up for the next ones."

Volunteers said there was 'a lot of social interaction', 'engaging and useful conversations', and that they were 'busy most of the time'.

One was worried that 'if we get many more people that the venue may not be big enough', due to the popularity of the event which took place at the Salvation Army.

Anne said: "We will try to repair anything you can carry in, except microwaves, pressure cookers, child car seats and prams.

"The most successful department were the three ladies on sewing: 12 out of 14 repairs completed to satisfaction.

"The cafe runs on a donation system, so you give what you can afford for your repair.

The repair café will run again on Saturday, March 14, Saturday, May 9 and Saturday, June 13.
