Chichester Festival Theatre announces rescheduled dates for South Pacific

Daniel Evans’s production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s classic had been set to be the musical centrepiece of Chichester’s Festival 2020 until its cancellation due to Covid-19.

The musical has been rescheduled to Festival 2021 and will run from 5 July to 28 August 2021.

All current ticketholders are being contacted with the chance to exchange their tickets for the equivalent date next year, at the same price; alternatively they may opt for credit, refund or donation.

Once this process is complete, the production will go on general sale later this summer.

With music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, book by Oscar Hammerstein II and Joshua Logan, adapted from the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel Tales of the South Pacific by James A. Michener, this much-loved, Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical opened in 1949 to huge success, becoming one of Broadway’s longest running hit shows.

It boasts one of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s most memorable scores, featuring songs such as Some Enchanted Evening, I’m Gonna Wash That Man Right Outa My Hair and Bali Ha’i.

The Festival 2020 cast was due to have been led by Gina Beck, Julian Ovenden, Joanna Ampil and Rob Houchen.

Director Daniel Evans is hoping to reconvene as many of the company as possible for 2021.
