The £1000 donation comes from the Police Property Act Fund (PPAF), made up of monies received by the police from the sale of unclaimed lost property and property confiscated by order of the courts and then sold.

Joanne Kondabeka, chief executive of Chichester Foodbank, said: “On behalf of Chichester District Foodbank I would like to thank Sussex Police for its donation of £1000 to help sustain our work to feed those who are in crisis.

“This donation will make a real difference as we face very uncertain times due to the coronavirus.

“Since we opened in September 2012 we have fed 18,082 in crisis and this money will go towards feeding more people.

“We now run a lunch pack scheme in the three main school holidays for families who are finding it hard to feed their children because they usually get free school meals due to low income.

“In the recent Easter holidays we gave out enough food for four weeks to allow the schools to put in measures to feed children during term time.

“The project relies solely on donations from the community and we really value this continued support.”

PC Laura Marmolejo said: “The work the Chichester District Foodbank are doing is invaluable, even more so during the coronavirus crisis.

“They’re a fantastic organisation who are helping so many people in our community and we are proud to continue to support them.

“Officers and staff showed their support by donating bags and boxes of urgently needed items to the foodbank in a collection at the station which was delivered to the warehouse on Thursday 7 May”.
