The flag historically was flown from a ship that was either arriving in port with known serious health problems or that had been placed under quarantine by the local port authorities.

As part of the protective action to delay the spread of the Coronavirus (Covid-19), Seaford Museum & Heritage Society confirmed it had shut to visitors.

“The plain yellow flag stands for the letter Q and thus also for quarantine, under which this Martello Tower, Seaford as a town and the whole country have been effectively placed by the Government.

“We will continue to fly the Yellow Jack until this emergency is over although we will signify important historic and royal anniversaries when the normal Union Flag will be flown.

“In the meantime, stay well.”
