Council asks businesses to get involved in Bexhill Day

Bexhill Town Council is issuing a last call to businesses in the town to get involved with Bexhill Day on Sunday, August 21.

Bexhill Day was originally celebrated in 1917 by the borough council to lift the town’s spirits during the First World War.

The new town council reinstated the town’s celebration day in 2021 and is asking local traders to create special offers for customers which the council will promote.

Mayor Paul Plim said: “It’s great to see such enthusiasm for Bexhill Day in the town. It’s an important part of our heritage and I’m so glad this tradition has been reinstated by the town council.

“Thanks to all the local businesses who have already signed up. I hope everyone enjoys the pride that this day brings. I will be at the Strive café on Saturday too, so if you can’t join us on Sunday we are pleased to make a weekend of it.”

A spokesperson for Bexhill Town Council said: “The Mayor will mark the day with a walk from the boundary at Lunsford Cross taking in Chestnut Meadow Campsite, Dragonflies Nursery, Bending Crescent Play Park.

“He will also visit the Bexhill Community Fire Station, The Mayor will be accompanied by the Girl Guides when he arrives at Guide Headquarters.

“Finally, the Mayor will attend the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight at the Albatross Club where a spitfire will fly over at 1.21pm.”

Some local businesses have already signed up and are offering offers.

Carol Diana Designs is opening for the day on Saturday with a special offer for all customers, and Always Sparkle Gifts is offering 15 per cent off all gifts over the weekend.

SPARC PM Ltd will sell knitted polyester Bexhill flags at £16 each. Sweets By The Sea has announced it will give away a special mix of red and green paintballs free when customers spend £10.

The team at Strive Café have also baked a cake for the day and will present it to the Mayor on Saturday (August 20) at 10am.
