Dee-Day White speaks on the radio about the role of a Hastings lifeboat in the Dunkirk evacuation

The broadcast will be between 13.00 – 16.00 on Thursday 4th June 2020 - almost to the hour when the Admiral Ramsey was told to cease the operation 14.37hrs on that day 80 years ago.

In the interview Dee Day talks about life in the Old Town and his involvement in many charity activities, and how he, with Tush Hamilton, brought over the Cyril and Lilian Bishop, from France to its final berth in The Bourne, opposite All Saints Church and The Stables.

He also tells the story of the lifeboat’s war-time service, when it earned the name the Ghost of Dunkirk.

Chris said: “When we did the original broadcast everybody in the studio became very emotional, and tears flowed.

“I also have a connection with the Dunkirk Vets, as my late father was a committee member and I went on many trips with the Vets, who were such a great unassuming bunch of guys. I was very proud when I was made an honorary member, this was normally reserved for the ladies whose husbands had served and escaped that fateful experience.
