If you’re considering welcoming a dog into your home, why not opt for a rescue?
Raystede, situated in Ringmer, near Lewes, cares for animals who have sadly found themselves homeless for a variety of reasons.
Here are dogs who are all hoping for a second chance at happiness.
Each dogs’ full profile can be found on Raystede’s website.

9. Lara and Nelly - Chihuahua pair
Lara (tri colour) and Nelly (cream) are new arrivals, settling in and undergoing assessment. They are sweet but sensitive little dogs who will be looking for a kind patient home to build their confidence. The pair can be worried by lots of noise and activity, so they would prefer a quiet home. They are timid around people and will require a calm, patient approach to making friends. They will bond closely with those they trust and will enjoy lap cuddles. Lara and Nelly need to be rehomed together and would like to be the only dogs in the home. They will require several meets at the rescue centre to get to know potential adopters. Photo: Raystede

10. Molly - five-year-old French Bulldog
Molly is the most loving, cheeky and affectionate girl who has won the hearts of everyone at Raystede, according to the charity. She would like a calm, supportive home with a garden to explore. She needs a little help with house training but will make big improvements with this once settled in a home. Molly enjoys greeting people but can be worried by some and will just avoid them. The charity said she 'has made countless friends here and is a favourite with the staff and volunteers'. She will need to be the only pet in the home and would prefer being walked in quiet locations with a low population of dogs. She loves to learn and has quickly picked up fun training cues and has great focus. Raystede said Molly is a real character who will have you smiling with her quirky traits. Photo: Raystede

11. Stanley - 11-month-old Frenchie
Stanley will be looking for a calm, quiet home able to support him both behaviourally and emotionally. He would prefer a semi-rural or rural home as he finds busy built up areas too much. He is housetrained, used to travelling, used to being left for short periods but may prefer a home with company. Stanley is friendly with people, and loves a cuddle and a fuss! He can be worried by noisy young children, so would prefer a home where any children are older teenagers. Stanley will need to be the only dog and would prefer a home with no visiting dogs. Stanley will require a supportive home with an understanding of his anxious behaviour. He is an intelligent boy who enjoys playing and scentwork so would like to continue this in his new home. 12. Oti - two-year-old crossbreed
Oti is a fun-loving, affectionate, intelligent, active boy. He is seeking an owner who is understanding of dog body language and behaviour as he can resource guard some items, according to Raystede. He is also incredibly affectionate and likes to think he is a lap dog, so would like a home with more company. Oti is sociable and outgoing towards new people. He can be worried by larger dogs, but is more confident with canines his own size or smaller. Raystede said Oti is going through adolescence so can struggle with emotional regulation and have times of over arousal, mouthing and hyperactive periods. He knows a variety of cues and loves to learn and engage with his people. Photo: Raystede
