Doug Bewley, 35, started on Sunday, April 26, the day he was due to run the London Marathon in support of charity Jigsaw South East.

He joined the #TwoPointSixChallenge, created by the organisers of the London Marathon, and aimed to raise £2,000 for the charity – a target he has more than doubled, with the total now at more than £4,800.

He said: “Despite its cancellation, I have decided to run the marathon distance of 26.2 miles on a treadmill in my kitchen.

“To really try and raise some decent money I will endeavour to repeat this distance daily until I reach 262 miles.

“This is going to be a tough challenge not only physically as I have not trained for this but mentally, running on the spot with no change of scenery for four to five hours a day will soon get old.

“But with all their fundraising cancelled at this time they’ll be needing these funds more than ever, I want to help this incredible charity as much as I can.”
Jigsaw South East works to support children who have been bereaved, or are facing the loss of a loved one, through its dedicated grief support and preparing for loss services.

The married father of four-year-old twin boys has fundraised for the charity in the past – last year he ran the Brighton Marathon and cycled from John O’Groats to Land’s End to fundraise for them.

He is also the director of a small business, Unique Technical Solutions, which has been impacted by the lockdown, a problem also facing Jigsaw South East.

He said: “Jigsaw does amazing work, and with the number of deaths due to Covid-19 rising dramatically, sadly more children and families will need their support.

“This is the least I could do, and I’m asking you all if you can do a 2.6 Challenge to help them too.”
