East Preston rose show successes for Patrick, without the roses

PATRICK Sims picked up four awards as the most successful exhibitor at East Preston and Kingston Horticultural Society’s rose show (Saturday, June 16).

He took home the blue rosette for best fuchsias, the Butterfill Cup for sweet peas, the Helen Cryer Memorial Bowl for most points in the show and the Springett Cup for best specimen sweet pea.

Poor weather led to a small drop in entries, but no reduction in quality at the Conservative Hall for the good number of visitors to enjoy, and to browse the cake and plant stalls. This year’s rose show was held separately from the East Preston Festival – normally it falls on the last Saturday of festival week.

Other first prize winners were: Peter Sprake, Joy Newman-Rice, Samantha McKenzie, Christina Goodwin, Primrose Buckley, Fred Spanton, Jocelyn Silk, Doug Medhurst, Colin Crane, Celia Buckley.
