To celebrate 25 years of EBS, the organisation is extending its route to ‘take the spectacle to more people and businesses’.
Writing on the society’s Facebook page, a spokesperson said: “We’re incredibly proud of how far the event has come and of the community that’s helped us reach this milestone.
“What began a quarter of a century ago as a small, humble procession in a field grew to the lower prom, then the full seafront route — and now, in the biggest change to our night in over a decade, we’re bringing the event into the town centre too!”
Eastbourne bonfire takes place on Saturday, 3 October from 7.15pm and the society says that all the much‑loved features of the night are returning for the Jubilee year — the torchlight procession, the beach‑side bonfire and the spectacular fireworks display.
The society describes the route change as marking ‘a major milestone’.
“And it’s a step rooted in Eastbourne’s own bonfire history. In the late 1800s, the town once boasted seven bonfire societies, with processions spanning both the seafront and the town centre, bringing every street alive for Bonfire Night,” they say.
“By extending our route, we honour that tradition with a nod to those bygone celebrations.”
Full details of the route are available in the society’s event programme, which has just launched online.
