A spokesperson for the hospice said, “It takes someone with substantial senior leadership experience to be the chair of the board of trustees at the hospice,”

According to the hospice, it provided end of life care to more than 2,200 people last year and its services are rated Outstanding by the Care Quality Commission.

Fiona said, “Until I became involved with St Wilfrid’s I hadn’t fully understood quite how much they do for our community in terms of expert, compassionate end of life care.

“The pandemic has given all of us an insight into what it means to care for those around us and I would encourage everyone locally to become involved in the work of the hospice in whatever capacity – member of staff, volunteer, trustee or, indeed, chair.

“I retire from the role in the autumn, and it is time for someone else to help take the hospice forwards.”

The chair is responsible for leading the board of trustees in its governance role and make sure the charity’s resources are deployed optimally in pursuit of its vision, mission and strategy.

Substantial senior leadership and board governance experience is required and the hospice want someone who can be a strong and influential advocate for the hospice’s services with a good understanding of the local health and care system as well as strong local connections.

The role is voluntary, unpaid and would take four to five days a month with a need for some flexibility.

More information is available on St Wilfrid’s website and the deadline for applications is April 16.
