Eight year old Summer Finlay, from St Leonards, had been growing her hair for the past year so she could donate it to the Little Princess Trust which makes hair wigs for children undergoing cancer treatment.

The sponsored haircut, which took place at Studio One hairdressers in Hastings, also raised £500 toward her appeal to purchase a special sports wheel chair.

Summer, who suffers from spina bifida, started taking part in Wheelchair BMX at the age of three after being inspired by an online video. She now needs to upgrade her chair.

Summer said: “I love my new hair. Sharon, at the hairdressers, did a brilliant job and I’m so happy to help other people too. I can’t wait to do it all again”

Mum Ann-Marie Finlay, said: “I’m so proud of her for helping those in need. I was welling up to see her doing such an inspirational thing for others, despite all she’s been through.”

Earlier this year, in July, Summer featured on the giant video screen at London’s Piccadilly Circus, clapping the NHS during lockdown as part of a national tribute to the NHS.
