The Electric Palace cinema in Hastings Old Town is set to re-open its doors and start screening films again from Thursday August 20.

The independent community cinema, which is run by volunteers, carried out an online survey with its web-site subscribers, with 96 percent of respondents saying the re-opening measures would help them to feel safe in returning to the cinema.

A total of 92 percent said they would be happy to wear a facemask while viewing a film.

The cinema door and a window will be kept open to allow for air-flow.

Part of the measures mean going over entirely to online booking as the cinema says it is the only safe way it can manage and seat people attending.

The first film to be shown is Honeyland, a Russian film about a woman who utilises ancient beekeeping traditions to cultivate honey in the mountains of North Macedonia.
